Small-scale Hydropower development in ECOWAS countries

Skat staff provided Technical Assistance for the complete preparation and implementation of a five-day regional workshop on «small-scale hydropower (SHP) development in the ECOWAS countries» in cooperation with ECREEE (ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency) and reviewed the up-scale Programme for SHP in the ECOWAS countries.

The general objective of the project is to improve the regional collaboration of ECOWAS countries with regard to small-scale hydropower. The services provided by Dr. Hedi Feibel were: Review and improvement of the ECOWAS up-scale programme document for SHP, a stakeholder analysis, a capacity needs assessment, proposal on a concept for an SHP inventory, comprehensive preparation of content and methodology of the workshop (coordination of all contents with invited speakers, preparation of methodology and contents of interactive working groups), moderation of the five days workshop and finally assistance in follow-up and fund-raising activities for SHP Programme. The services provided by Martin Bölli as a core trainer during the capacity building unit of the workshop were: presentation of key aspects like classification of small-scale hydro and respective implications, difference between isolated and grid-connected systems, legal and policy aspects. In addition, he did the moderation of the respective discussion sessions and the moderation of working groups.
