Energy and Climate

Skat offers a wide range of services related to renewable energies, energy efficiency and other climate relevant topics with special focus on hydropower, hybrid systems, eco-efficient technologies (e.g. improved brick kilns) and process optimisation.

Support of SONEDE in exploiting the hydropower potential in the drinking water supply system, Tunisia
Implementation: 2012

Skat’s staff studied and evaluated the available potential of hydropower in the drinking water supply system of the national drinking water utility SONEDE / Tunisia. Assistance was provided to the staff of SONEDE for the implementation of a demonstration project. In addition, a three day classroom and practical training was implemented on technical and economical issues.

Small-scale Hydropower development in ECOWAS countries
Implementation: 2012

Skat staff provided Technical Assistance for the complete preparation and implementation of a five-day regional workshop on «small-scale hydropower (SHP) development in the ECOWAS countries» in cooperation with ECREEE (ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency) and reviewed the up-scale Programme for SHP in the ECOWAS countries.

Technical Support Unit TSU, Energising Development II, Indonesia

The Government of the Netherlands is supporting Green PNPM’s block grant component by contributing approximately $8,000,000 to the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) to establish a Technical Support Unit (TSU) which - building upon the PNPM principles - provides technical assistance to communities that are planning and implementing Mini Hydropower schemes (MHP).

The “Access to Modern Energy Services - Ethiopia (AMES-E) Project” was working towards increasing electricity access

The objective of the project has been the provision of sustainable access to modern energy services (hydro and photovoltaics) for around 300,000 beneficiaries. Building on its longstanding experience in the energy sector, GIZ provided technical assistance to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, NGO’s and the private sector.
