The Tsunami disaster of 26 December 2004 affected most severely the coastal areas of Sri Lanka, the Indonesian province of Aceh, Southern India, the Maldives, Thailand, Malaysia, and Myanmar with a death toll reportedly exceeding 250'000, with millions of people who became homeless. |
PanichankerniThe „Panichankerni Reconstruction Scheme“ centres on the construction of 130 houses including basic infrastructure and community facilities in the fisher village of Panichankerni in the Vaharai area on the East Coast of Sri Lanka. The village is situated 60 km north of Batticaloa town at the border of the LTTE and government controlled area.

ThiraimaduIn Thiraimadu, 5 km out of Batticaloa town, an entire new settlement for 1000 families was planned to be realised. Several donor organisations were involved in this project.
