Water Supply & Sanitation

Skat provides advisory services, backstopping and training on water supply and sanitation issues, whilst implementing a series of innovative specific projects.

WASHTech
Implementation: 2013

Skat developed a methodology for the assessment of the applicability of WASH technologies (TAF) in developing countries with focus on SSA. The TAF tool supports the WASH sector to plan and monitor technology introduction processes. The TAF has been tested on 15 WASH technologies in 3 African countries.

SDC Backstopping Mandate in Water & Sanitation

Since 1996, Skat implements a Backstopping Mandate in Water & Sanitation (BSM W&S), which provides SDC’s Water Initiatives division (WIs) the professional services in the area of Water for People and IWRM needed to further the agency’s drive to promote the realization of the MDGs and the sustainable development of the sector beyond 2015.

ApaSan (Swiss Water and Sanitation Project Moldova) Phase 2
Implementation: Phase 1: 2008 - 2011, Phase 2: 2011 - 2015

ApaSan contributes to improved quality of life and public health of the rural population in Moldova through increased sustainable access to safe drinking water and environmental sanitation (WES). The project fosters the scaling-up of replicable models for decentralized rural WES services delivery and management introduced by SDC over the period 2001-2008.

Backstopping Mandate “Support to the Water Task Force Project”, Kosovo
Implementation: 2009-2013

In order to develop the water sector in Kosovo, the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning and donors initiated the Water Task Force (WTF) project approach. Since July 2009, Skat as backstopping consultant supports the Swiss Coordination Office in Kosovo in the steering and monitoring of the project and provides technical support to the local permanent advisors.

6th International Rural Water Supply Network Forum
Implementation: 2011

From the 29th of November to the 2d of December of 2011, the 6th RWSN Forum took place in Kampala, Uganda. Over 480 delegates from 54 countries participated in a series of parallel working sessions and plenary discussions. An exhibition comprising 28 exhibitors from the public sector, private enterprises and NGOs presented different cases, technologies and innovations on rural water supplies. This event, also provided social and networking opportunities.

The Right to Improved Rural Water Supply at the 6th World Water Forum
Implementation: Event: 12–17 March 2012

On the recommendation of SDC, RWSN was chosen to co-ordinate the Target and Solutions Group on Rural Water Supply at the 6th World Water Forum. Skat Foundation, as Secretariat for RWSN, was responsible for leading the target. This involved preparing a Global Action Plan for rural water supply, organising a two-hour session at the WWF6 and reviewing and shortlisting submitted solutions.

Uganda Country Status Overview (CSO) 2010

Skat was mandated to assess the performance of Uganda in delivering the Water Supply and Sanitation MDGs based on benchmarking of sub-sector service delivery pathways, past spending and future needs versus commitments. Technical Support for Self Supply in Uganda
Implementation: 2010

The Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) and numerous Non-Government Organisations in Uganda have several years of experience in the promotion of rainwater harvesting for domestic use as well as the piloting of household-led improvements to hand dug wells. In Uganda, it is becoming clear that there are many households able and willing to invest in making improvements to their own water supplies – known as Self Supply.

The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) has contracted the consortium Hydrophil - Skat to provide monitoring services for the Pungwe Basin Transboundary Integrated Water Resources Management and Development Programme (PP2). Evaluation of the Pilot Project for development and manufacturing of Rope Pumps in Mozambique
Implementation: 06/2006 – 12/2008

The Water and Sanitation Working Group (GAS), as part of its assistance for research and development of alternative technology options for rural water supply, is supporting the National Water Directorate on the implementation of different pilot projects for testing the development and production of the rope pump in Mozambique. Skat was part of the Technical team in charge of the evaluation of the pilot project for development of rope pumps.
