Marianne Pecnik is currently working as a TECHNICAL ADVISOR with SKAT Consulting – a consulting firm working internationally in development co-operation and specializing in technical, social, institutional and economic aspects of infrastructure and environmental management, water supply and sanitation, sustainable building and settlement development.
Being an architect, Marianne is currently responsible for the implementation of a technology transfer project in Pakistan with the aim of piloting and introducing environment-friendly construction materials and technologies, in particular in regards to Vertical-Shaft-Brick-Kiln Technology (VSBK). The technology of this brick manufacturing system originated in China and has been further developed in India with the participation of Skat.
Marianne’s core competences are the planning, implementation and management of post disaster / conflict reconstruction and retrofitting projects.
Prior to her involvement with VSBK in Pakistan, Marianne designed a post-conflict Tsunami housing project in the East of Sri Lanka, which was launched together with a local NGO on behalf of Skat. She managed the project in a conflict-sensitive area with the aim of capacity building of the technical units, including technical trainings for local structures anchoring a sustainable construction approach.
From 2006 to 2007 Marianne was working as a construction and water/sanitation delegate for the Austrian Red Cross in Sri Lanka. In this regard, Marianne was overall responsible for the home-owner driven reconstruction of a village of 372 houses and a maternity home applying a local and sustainable reconstruction approach.
Marianne has a Masters degree in Architecture from the Technical University in Graz, Austria.
